Camp 2018 will mark 28 years of NorthLand Bible Camp. Frank & Linda Distad moved to N.W. Wisconsin in 1987 to work with what was then “The American Missionary Fellowship”. Part of their goal was to develop area ministries, working with Teens, Vacation Bible Schools and After School Bible Clubs. From the kids and teens they worked with they wanted to develop a camping ministry.
In the winter of 1990, with a foot of snow on the ground, Frank & Linda, along with 3 other couples, (Kevin & April Morse, Wayne and Cheryl Nutt and Clarence and Dorothy Ecker) made a trip to Lake Nebagamon to look over Assembly Park Camp. We all came away with an excitement in our hearts at the possibilities of what God could do.
In August of 1991 the first camp was held with 37 campers and 13 adult staff. Even though camp is only one week in August every year, there have been over 600 different campers and 120 adult staff. Only God knows how many campers have put their faith in Christ as Savior or who have made life decisions to serve the Lord. Each staff member has come away changed for His glory.
Take a look at the photo above. It was taken in 1991 and these were the first campers of NorthLand Bible Camp. If you know anyone in this photo, please leave us a comment with their name and yours (if you want).
